What Volunteer Efforts Make the Biggest Difference?
Volunteering is one of the most impactful ways to make a difference in your community. At Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, we are blessed to have volunteers who generously give their time and effort to support those in need. Here’s a closer look at some of our key volunteer opportunities and how to volunteer in your community.
Community Meal Program
One of the most essential community outreach programs we have is our Community Meal program. Every day from 10 AM to 11 AM, volunteers gather at the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility to serve around 500 meals to individuals and families in need. The tasks involved include serving meals, sanitizing tables, preparing dishes for washing, taking meal tickets, and handing out water to guests.
As a volunteer, you play a crucial role in ensuring that everyone receives their meal in a clean and safe environment. This program not only provides nourishment, but also fosters a sense of community and dignity among our guests. Be mindful that to volunteer at the Community Meal program, you must be at least 14 years old.
Hands of Hope Food Pantry
Our Hands of Hope Food Pantry operates from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 2:00 PM Additionally, the pantry is open on the last Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. by appointment. To schedule a visit, please call 702-387-2291 or email foodpantry@catholiccharities.com.
Volunteers assist in various tasks such as helping clients transport groceries, stocking shelves, filling USDA bags or boxes, and ensuring the pantry is clean and organized. The pantry provides a wide range of food items, including fresh produce, canned goods, and baked goods. Registered clients can visit the pantry once every 30 days.
This is one of the volunteer opportunities near you that allows you to help provide essential nutrition to families and individuals, ensuring they have access to the food they need to thrive.
Remote Volunteering Opportunities
We understand that not everyone can volunteer in person. That’s why we offer remote volunteering opportunities to make it easier for you to contribute to our cause. One such opportunity is assembling comfort kits for our clients.
When you sign up for this program, we provide you with a list of items needed for each kit. You can assemble the kits on your own time and deliver them to the Catholic Charities administration building at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd N, anytime between Monday and Friday, 8 AM to 4 PM. This option is perfect for those who want to make a difference, but have busy schedules or other commitments.
