Preparing for 2024’s Turkey Drive in Las Vegas
As the Thanksgiving season approaches, all of us at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada are gearing up for our annual Thanksgiving food drive. This cherished event calls on the generosity of the Las Vegas community to ensure that families and individuals struggling with food insecurity have a warm, nourishing meal to celebrate the holiday.
Supporting the Community Through Challenging Times
Economic challenges, rising inflation, and increasing food costs have left many Southern Nevadans in need. To address this, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is leading the way with our turkey drive and various holiday food assistance programs.
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada's efforts include providing frozen turkeys, meal fixings, and prepared Thanksgiving dinners through its St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, Hands of Hope Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels program. These initiatives serve some of the most vulnerable populations, including food-insecure families and individuals as well as homebound seniors.
How to Help
If you’re asking, “Where can I donate food near me?” look no further than Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s campus at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North. From now through Thanksgiving, we are accepting donations of frozen turkeys and nonperishable meal staples like boxed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, and canned yams. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
Additionally, volunteers are vital to the success of the food drives near you. Opportunities include sorting and distributing food donations, assisting in meal preparation, and helping during Thanksgiving Day events. Please consider signing up to help assist those in need.
Making Thanksgiving Possible for Thousands
This year, Catholic Charities’ Thanksgiving food drive near you is projected to meet the demand of 150 families daily through the Hands of Hope Food Pantry. As the holiday nears, that number is expected to rise to over 250 families per day. On Thanksgiving Day, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is hosting its 59th annual free meal, serving over 700 vulnerable individuals.
Our team is also ramping up efforts to prepare 2,450 meals for the homebound through its Meals on Wheels program. This preparation includes roasting turkeys and cooking side dishes during the week of October 21–25 to ensure timely delivery to seniors in need.
Spread Gratitude and Joy
This Thanksgiving, let’s come together as a community to spread kindness and hope. By donating to the turkey drive or volunteering your time, you can help ensure that everyone in Southern Nevada can enjoy a meal and experience the joy of the season. Together, let’s create a Thanksgiving filled with gratitude, community, and compassion.
