Celebrate Catholic Charities’ 84th Anniversary with Us

February 28, 2025

This year, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is celebrating our 84th anniversary and we want you to be involved! In honor of this momentous anniversary, we invite you to participate in our Feed Vegas campaign by making a donation to help fund this special community meal. In conjunction with the meal, we will be giving free t-shirts to those receiving the meal as a celebration of our 84 years of service. We find that our history of community service is best celebrated by doing more of what we love, serving. If you are able, help us by donating so we can continue to Feed Vegas and build up our compassionate community.

A Bit of Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s History

On April 16th, 1941, Bishop Thomas K. Gorman began what was originally called the Catholic Welfare Program with Father Thomas F. Collins as the first diocese director. After receiving status as a non-profit organization a few years later, our organization began tackling our community service goals. In the years since our conception, we have expanded our reach and aid offerings significantly. Now, we are able to support more than 4,000 people each day through our 16 services. Thanks to our generous donors, workers, volunteers, and board members, we have been able to expand our services and the sustainability of those services with each passing year. This past year, we finished improvement and expansion efforts for our Food Services Warehouse and hosted a multitude of donation drives and campaigns to garner support and expand our reach.

How You Can Participate

If you want to be a part of the Catholic Charities’ food pantry or our other programs, please consider donating or volunteering for one of our food initiatives like our daily meal service at the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility. We are always looking for more volunteers to get involved and would love to welcome a new friendly face looking to help their community.

Our Services

Since our beginning in 1941, we have learned more about our community and its needs, allowing us to improve and expand our services. We now include meal services at the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, Meals on Wheels food delivery, monthly grocery shopping at our Catholic Charities’ food pantry, free English language courses, a citizenship course, an emergency shelter for men, St. Vincent Apartments, a housing navigation center, assistance finding employment, immigration services, and even more.

For people who are unsure how to receive assistance, we are here to help in any way we can. With 84 years of social service behind us, we are determined to continue aiding those facing hardships.

We invite you to celebrate this milestone with us by pledging a donation or signing up to volunteer. If you are interested and want to learn more, contact us for more information and consider signing up for a tour of our campus.
