2024 Summer Volunteer Opportunities
Summer is an excellent time to explore new opportunities, gain valuable experience, and make a positive impact in your community through volunteering. With so many organizations offering summer volunteer programs, it can be challenging to find the right fit. If you're interested in volunteering in Southern Nevada, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is a great place to start. We offer a variety of programs that we'll highlight in this blog.
About Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that provides a wide range of services to people in need, including food and shelter. They offer various volunteer opportunities throughout the year, including summer volunteering needs. Whether you are looking to feed those in need and simply give back to your community, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada has a volunteer opportunity for you.
Volunteering at Our Community Meal and Food Pantry
Summer is the perfect time to give back to your community, and one great way to do so is by volunteering at Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada's free daily community meal and Hands of Hope Food Pantry. These programs are essential to providing nutritious meals and food to those in need throughout the Las Vegas area.
Community Meal Program
Volunteers help serve meals, sanitize tables, prepare dishes for washing, take meal tickets, and hand out water to guests. Meals are served daily from 10 AM to 11 AM at the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility, with average of more than 500 mealsmeals served each day. As a volunteer, you will play an important role in ensuring that everyone receives their meal and that the environment remains clean and safe for all. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Daily service opportunities from 9:30 to 11:30 AM.
Hands of Hope Food Pantry
Volunteers help clients transport groceries, stock shelves, fill USDA bags or boxes, and ensure the pantry is clean and organized for clients. The pantry volunteer service is offered Weekdays from 8 AM to 12 PM, 12-2PM and 2-3:30, providing a variety of food items, including fresh produce, canned goods, and baked goods. Registered clients can access the pantry once every 30 days.
If you are unable to volunteer in person, you can still help by donating non-perishable food items or making a monetary contribution. Every little bit helps in providing assistance to those in need.
Volunteering with Your Company or Organization as a Summer Activity
Looking for a way to bring your team together this summer? Consider volunteering with your company or organization. Not only is it a great team bonding experience, but it also allows you to give back to your community.
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada welcomes companies and organizations to sign up their groups to assist with community meals or the Hands of Hope Food Pantry. Whether it's serving meals to guests or helping clients gather food items, your team can make a real difference in the lives of those in need.
Volunteering with Catholic Charities benefits not only the guests and clients, but also your team. By working together to give back to the community, you'll build stronger bonds and improve teamwork skills. It's a great way to boost morale and create a sense of purpose beyond the office.
While the holidays tend to be a popular time for volunteering, summer is also a great time to get involved. With many people on vacation or taking time off, it can be a slower time in the office, making it a great opportunity to give back.
Remote Volunteer Options
Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada understands that not everyone can volunteer in person. That's why we offer remote volunteering services as an alternative way to contribute. One of our remote volunteering opportunities is to provide comfort kits for our clients by collecting and purchasing the necessary items to assemble them.
When you sign up for this program, on our website you can find a list of items needed for each kit. Or purchase from Amazon Charity Lists and have them sent directly to us. Otherwise you can then complete the assembly on your own time, whenever it's convenient for you. Once you finish assembling the kits, deliver them to the Catholic Charities administration building, located at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd N. Drop-off is available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM.
This remote option makes volunteering more convenient and accessible for everyone. By participating, you can still make a positive impact on the community and provide comfort to those in need.
