Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada Requests Early Community Support for Fall Turkey Drive as Inflation Pain Persists

Nonprofit seeks donations of frozen turkeys and other staples as it anticipates increased need ahead of Thanksgiving holiday

Las Vegas – Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada (CCSN) is once again calling on the community for major support this fall season as low-income residents face challenges to food access, including rising cost of groceries and other expenses. Donations of frozen turkeys or other Thanksgiving fixings, as well as cash donations, will be accepted to supplement CCSN’s current food supply and ensure a strong level of support of its food pantry as Thanksgiving approaches in November.

“Rising food costs and other interruptions to income have exacerbated food insecurity for many vulnerable families in our community,” said Deacon Tom Roberts, CEO, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. “As we anticipate an increased need in the coming months, we ask those who are able to consider a charitable donation so we may feed as many Nevadans as we can. Small donations of food, funds or volunteer time go a long way for those in need this holiday season.”

To serve the monthly demand of nearly 4,000 registered families currently utilizing the Hands of Hope Food Pantry, the organization is seeking community support for food donations. For this year’s turkey drive, frozen turkeys and nonperishable dinner fixings such as boxed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, canned goods such as: green beans, cranberry sauce, yams and pumpkin will be accepted daily from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m. Monday through Friday at the Catholic Charities campus, located at 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

Ahead of the holiday, CCSN will begin distributing Thanksgiving meal boxes to registered Hands of Hope families while preparing Meals on Wheels packages for the more than 2,000 homebound seniors enrolled in the program. On Thanksgiving Day, Catholic Charities will serve its 58th annual free holiday community meal to 700 men, women and children inside the St. Vincent Lied Dining Facility.
